In 1991 Wellington College Old Boys Rugby Football Club and the Victoria University Rugby Football Club amalgamated to form the Old Boys University (OBU). With over 200 seasons behind it, the club has a proud rugby history and strong sense of tradition.
All new players/supporters/volunteers are welcome at OBU with a special mention to those that are graduating from Wellington College or starting at Victoria University. We have fantastic facilities and our clubrooms are at the Cambridge Hotel where many celebrations have made local folklore!
OBU is one of Wellington and New Zealand's largest clubs and has a number of thriving social or non-training teams add colour and vibrancy to the club. We also have senior teams in the top 3 grades of mens rugby in the Wellington competition and other training teams such as the under 85kg teams, age grade teams (under 19 and under 21), as well as a strong womens team. Over the summer we also have several touch teams entered in local competitions.
Over the years, the clubs combined have produced twenty-nine all blacks, including two All Black captains - George Gothard Aitken in 1921 and Stuart Sinclair Wilson in 1983. The club's most recent All Blacks have been half-back, Jon Preston, midfielder Paul Steinmetz and centre Conrad Smith.
